Decent Homes

Picture of residential home from street outsideThe Decent Homes standard was established in July 2000 in order to ensure that all social housing meets a standard of decency by 2010.  A Decent Home is one which is wind- and weather-tight, warm and has modern facilities.  In this context it should:

  • be fit under the new Housing, Health and Safety rating system (HHSR)

  • be in a reasonable state of repair

  • have reasonably modern facilities and services

  •  provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort, including insulation and heating.
