A Trip to see The Elves, plus other Festive Fun
This year the Bright Sparks Community Residents' Group didn’t organise a Christmas party for the children. Instead they arranged a family trip to see a Christmas show that was open to all residents from Newnham Court, Clump Field and St Catherine’s Court in Ipswich, the areas covered by the residents group. Nearly 50 residents from the area eagerly signed up for the outing on December 10th at the Avenue Theatre to see a production of The Elves and the shoemaker. It just happened the 10th December was the one day this year when we had serious amounts of snow. However, this did not put off many of our determined residents; the majority made their way through the snow to enjoy the show. They had such a great time it was suggested that next year there should be a summer trip to the Avenue Theatre as well.
The cost of attending The Elves was subsidised by Orwell’s community development fund which is available to Orwell’s Residents' Groups annually. With the remaining money available from the fund, Bright Sparks can apply for some picnic tables. A bench for the communal areas has also been purchased.
The Elves is put on by The Red Rose Chain at the Avenue theatre Gyppeswyk Avenue Ipswich until 31 December 2017. There are lots of other panto productions on over the holiday period and into the New Year for a great family outing.
Whiting Road & Mallhurst
Christmas at Whiting Road means organising the Santa’s Grotto and get together in the centre of their estate for the Residents' Group. This being the forth event the residents' group have organised this year. There has already been, a tea party for the overs 60, a summer fête, the 'Whiting Road has got talent competition' and a Halloween do for the children.
The Mallhurst Residents' Group in Chedgrave held a festive December meeting with mulled wine and nibbles for all those who came along.
Our Residents' Groups need more support
If you live in an area where there is an Orwell Residents' Group could you spare a little time to help out at events or even come to a meeting from time to time?
If you live in an area where there is no Residents' Group you are missing out! There is money available for activities and improvements for you community, and it can be a lot of fun!
