Orwell X Phoenix Homes Colchester

We’re pleased to announce that Orwell Housing has successfully acquired the properties and staff services of Phoenix Homes Colchester (PHC), with the transfer officially completed on 31st October 2025. This marks an exciting step in expanding our supported housing services in North Essex.

PHC is a small, Colchester-based charity and limited company that has provided vital support to individuals with mental health challenges and/or mild to moderate learning disabilities. Run by a dedicated team of voluntary trustees, PHC began seeking a housing association with shared values in 2023 to ensure the long-term sustainability of its services, staff and continuity of care for its residents, many of whom have lived in PHC homes for several years.

Gregg Dodds, Assistant Director of Development and Growth at Orwell Housing said “We’re delighted to expand our supported housing services in North Essex, ensuring continuity of care as a safe, secure home for current residents. It also enables us to invest in and enhance the living environment of these homes”.

Lesley Poole, Chair of PHC added “Following consultations beginning in 2023, and visits to the properties, meeting our staff and interacting with our residents in 2024, we’re delighted to complete the transfer of our assets and activities to Orwell Housing. We’re confident residents will continue receiving the high-quality support and housing they’ve come to expect from PHC”.

We’re proud to welcome PHC’s residents and staff into the Orwell community and look forward to building on the strong foundations they’ve created.
