Our History

Orwell has a long tradition of developing affordable homes, having been in the business since 1963. Over this time, Orwell has established a strong and reliable reputation for delivering numerous government funded affordable housing programmes. 

More than just a home

Orwell approach is to ensure that all it’s new developments work within its surroundings and we recognise that new homes are more than just ‘bricks and mortar’. We strive to provide well designed homes that create a sense of place that our residents will enjoy and be proud to live. We design quality, beautiful homes and have received two RIBA design awards, two housing design awards and a RICS sustainability award for our projects.

Innovative and Flexible

Orwell is experienced at dealing with the varying and changing demands of a development project rather than simply employing a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We are flexible and responsive to our customers’ needs and will adapt and flex to what is needed as the scheme and relationships develop and as challenges occur.

Partnership working

Orwell understands that partnership working is essential to delivering development projects. Over the years we have built a long standing reputation of working in partnership with a wide range of partners across East Anglia, both in the public and private sector.

Diverse Strengths and expertise

As well as undertaking new build housing for sale or rent we have also undertaken projects to renovate and refurbish existing buildings with great success.

Our development team are multi-disciplinary and are able to offer the experience and skills to take projects right through from scheme feasibility and project modelling to planning submission, construction and handover.
