World Environment Day – Wednesday 5th June

Today is world environment day. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. In 2024, it is hosted by Saudi Arabia.

So today we’re thinking about all the ways in which we try our best here at Orwell to help the environment and with the weather being brighter today, it got us thinking about getting outside more and where we may have space at home, be it a garden or communal space, how can we make those areas as pleasant as they can be. Some things to think about are:

• Don’t leave rubbish out on the wrong day or in the wrong place, nor allow it to build up in your garden or in communal areas. It can cause both an obstruction to passers by and encourage vermin.
• Recycle as much as you can. On some estates communal bins are available for recycling. Please make sure that the correct waste is placed in the correct bin.
• Don’t drop litter on the estate. Take it home or put it in a bin.
