Orwell Housing Association were finalists in the annual tenant engagement awards with TPAS (The Tenancy Participation and Advisory Service) and are exceptionally proud to announce that Jade Tomlinson won the award for Inspirational Young Tenant of The Year.

The awards, which were hosted remotely this year, celebrate positive contribution to tenant engagement and involvement for housing providers and their tenants.

Jade Tomlinson won the award which acknowledges her commitment and determination in a campaign to help save a service set up to protect vulnerable young women at Whitworth House in Cambridge.  The service which was under threat of closure due to proposed funding cuts, was saved following the campaign, and a petition with over 40,000 signatures.

Orwell were also shortlisted in the category Excellence in Tenant Communication, for its tenancy sign-up film. Tenants were involved in the design and production of the film which features child actors and takes an innovative and straight forward approach to providing key information and advice in an accessible, easy to understand format for new tenants.

The film also provides useful information for new tenants on how to make the most of living in their community and highlights how residents can get involved and contribute to the success of their new living environment.

Orwell Housing Chief Executive, Wendy Evans-Hendrick said: “We’re very proud to have been nominated and made it to the finals, and even more proud of Jade who showed real passion and tenacity in the campaign.  These awards celebrate all that is good about the communities that we work with and support and show the real value and benefit of getting involved.”
